Merlann (Kay)'s Story
Life
After teaching in Balto. Co. Schools for 18 years (Perry Hall Jr., Pine Grove Jr., Parkville Jr., and Parkville High) I moved, in 1987, to the gorgeous Pacific Northwest to enjoy a new life. I live at the foot of beautiful Mt. Rainier. Winter skiing is an hour away and saltwater is 25 minutes away from my doorstep. The weather is temperate year round- NO HUMIDITY!! It rarely hits freezing and rarely hits the nineties. I love it!
I do miss crab cakes, Maryland tomatoes, Tastykakes, Utz potato chips, Wege's pretzels and Perdue chickens but the trade-off is worth it.
I retired in 2011 after 41 years of teaching. It's been a great run. I've loved teaching and would have done it forever if if the system would have just allowed me to teach. Instead the job (which had been my love) had just become another job.The teaching profession, today, h...Expand for more
as changed from a creative profession to a delivery system of uninspired mandates, turning teachers into uninspiring data drones. So, I'm now looking forward to new adventures.
My 24 year old son is about to be pushed from the nest squawking and flapping all the way. My wonderful husband, the love of my life, lost his battle with leukemia in August 2015. I miss him terribly. His illness was long and I try to take comfort that he no longer struggles. My head tells me that I must get on with life but my heart resists.
.It was fun seeing old faces at the October 2015 Reunion. I hope to see a lot more at the next one. Nancy and her team did an excellent job. I hope that they are up for another!
